DHS Terminates Family Reunification Parole Programs

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a Federal Register notice announcing the termination of all categorial family reunification parole (FRP) programs.

According to the notice, all FRP grants of parole will be terminated on January 14, 2026, except for paroles with a pending Form I-485.

FRP-based paroles with pending I-485 petitions

Those with Form I-485 applications filed on or before December 15, 2025, have a valid parole period until their petition is adjudicated or until their parole period expires, whichever date is sooner. In other words, if their petition is still pending on January 14, 2026, their parole period will remain valid until a decision is made on their I-485 or until their individual parole period expires. However, if USCIS denies the I-485 petition, their parole period will be terminated, regardless of its expiration date.
