UK Implements Electronic Travel Authorization Requirement, Effective Immediately

Individuals travelling to the United Kingdom from countries exempt from visa requirements must now present an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) document upon arrival to the UK. This new rule will affect travelers from 85 countries, including the United States.

To apply for an ETA, you must have:

  • A valid passport (must be the passport you will be traveling with)
  • Valid email
  • Online payment method
  • Photo of traveler/ ETA applicant

The ETA process was introduced for non-Europeans in early 2025 but was not a requirement for entry into the UK. However, it will now be enforced, and those without an ETA (from eligible countries) will not be allowed into the UK. ETAs must be acquired prior to travel and are valid until a traveler’s passport expires or two years, whichever date is sooner.
