The Department of State announced on July 25, 2025, that it will be limiting visa interview waivers, effective September 2, 2025. These limitations apply to first time applications and renewals, and will be required for most visas, including:

– E-1 visas
– E-2 visas
– F-1 visas
– H-1B visas
– J-1 visas
– L-1 visas
– O-1 visas

Visa waivers will remain available for the following:

– Government, diplomatic, and official-type visas.
– B-1, B-2, B1/B2 visa renewal applications submitted within 12 months of the prior visa’s expiration, and for individuals who were 18 years of age and older when they were issued the prior visa (with additional criteria).

Note: Individuals under 14 over 79 years of age will also be required to schedule in-person appointments.

Due to the transition to majority in-person interviews, those scheduling appointments should expect delays in scheduling visa interviews. Consulates may also require in-person appointments on a case-to-case basis. If you have any questions, contact us and we are happy to speak with you.
