A bill titled the Emergency Stopgap USCIS Stabilization Act that would halt the furlough of USCIS employees by increasing the agency’s premium processing revenue has passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with unanimous support.
As reported by Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), who introduced the bill with other representatives, “[t]he Emergency Stopgap USCIS Stabilization Act would allow the agency to halt the immediate furloughs, while providing more reliable and expanded services for premium processing applicants. The fees collected by USCIS may be used to address backlogs and adjudication delays for other applicants.”
The Emergency Stopgap USCIS Stabilization Act will now go to the Senate where it will decide if it will take up and pass the bill next week.
