Why is the Trump Administration pausing new visa appointments?
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the Trump Administration is pausing new visa appointments while they prepare to implement additional social media screening and vetting requirements for foreign students.
Which visas are affected?
The pause applies to student and exchange visitor visas. The Administration has paused new appointments for all F, M, and J visas until they release the updated screening requirements.
What will happen to visa appointments that have already been scheduled?
Visa interviews that have already been scheduled are not affected. U.S. consulates and embassies have only been instructed to pause new appointments.
What are the new screening requirements?

When will the new screening requirements be released?
The Trump Administration hasn’t provided any information on when they will release the new screening and vetting requirements. We will keep you updated.
How does this affect foreign students who currently have F, M or J visas?
This announcement only impacts foreign students who are planning to enter the United States under one of these visa categories and who do not already have visa appointments scheduled. Individuals who already have F, M, or J visas are not impacted by this announcement.
Can I still apply for an F, M, or J visa while the new appointments are paused?
Foreign students can still apply for these visas. However, they will not be able to schedule an interview appointment.
What should I do if I want to reschedule an upcoming visa interview appointment?
Given the current immigration climate and the novelty of the visa appointment pause, we recommend that you stick with your original appointment time.
