How much do you really know about your immigration attorney?
Murali Bashyam is the Managing Partner of Bashyam Global LLP and has been working in immigration law for over 20 years. If you have worked with our firm, then you will know Murali. He wears many hats in our office, and his dedication to the company and to our clients is second to none.
In continuation of our Get to Know series, we asked Murali a few questions. We want you to get to know Murali, the reason our office is here today.
Here’s what Murali has to say:
Where are you from?
I get asked this question all the time. My parents are from southern India, I was born in Toronto, Canada, but I’ve lived most of my life in the United States. So where am I from? I’m from a lot of places, but at this point I’d say the United States.
Whats your favorite vacation spot?
Seven Mile Beach in the Cayman Islands. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the restaurants are great and most importantly, the people are super friendly!
What is your favorite TV series and why?
It’s a close one between Friends and How I Met your Mother. However, between the two I’d pick How I Met Your Mother. The writing is so witty and the actors have such an amazing chemistry.
If you could trade places with someone real or fiction for a day who would it be?
The Edge from my favorite band, U2.
Do you consider yourself to be an early bird or night owl?
Early bird. You will typically find me at the office by 7am.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
Friday law firm Happy Hours. A firm that hangs out together, sticks together.
What is the most stressful part of your job and what’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The most stressful part is dealing with government inefficiencies. The most rewarding part is dealing with that stress together with a great law firm team and successfully helping our clients..
What are three things everyone should know about immigration?
1) It’s difficult; 2) the country needs it; and 3) immigrants are some of the best, hard-working, people.
What is your favorite quote?
“Do or do not, there is no try.”- Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back
As Murali mentioned, the most difficult part working in an immigration law can be, at times, the government inefficiencies that lead to consequences like frivolous Requests for Evidence, and worst of all, waiting periods that seem to only be getting longer.
As Yoda said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
It’s our job as an immigration law firm to ‘do,’ meaning we always strive to provide exceptional representation to our clients, advocate for smart immigration laws, and push forward regardless of the immigration climate.
We hope you got to know an important member of our team, Murali Bashyam, a little better.
Stay tuned for more on the Get to Know series. We will be introducing a different Bashyam Global team member every month!
