Rashmi Shah, Partner

How much do you really know about your immigration attorney?

Rashmi Shah is Partner of Bashyam Global LLP and has been working in immigration law for over 10 years. If you have worked with our firm, then you will know Rashmi. She helps guide the firm’s practice to stand out by delivering big firm knowledge and expertise, with small firm values of quality customer service and approachable, personable style.

In continuation of our Get to Know series, we asked Rashmi a few questions.  We want you to get to know Rashmi, a key contributor to our success and recognition as Legal Elite.

Here’s what Rashmi has to say:

Where are you from?

I grew up in Crawley, United Kingdom and Goldsboro, North Carolina. My family is originally from northeastern India from the states of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Whats your favorite vacation spot?

A favorite vacation spot in North Carolina is Asheville. Friendly people, great art scene, and delicious restaurants to explore.

What is your favorite movie and why?

My favorite movie is The Terminal with Tom Hanks.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my husband, Nikin, and 3 kids. The best part of my day is playing Go Fish with them at the end of a purposeful and productive day.

Why did you decide to go into immigration law?

As an immigrant myself, I remember vividly moving to the U.S. and starting a new life. The journey interested both my sister and I so much that we both became immigration lawyers. I was able to work with my sister at her immigration firm in Atlanta during law school and that solidified the choice of law – being able to solve challenging immigration puzzles to help people similar to ourselves.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

Teleport anywhere in the world, at any time. No more waiting in airports!

Who do you admire and why?

My parents. They embody the true immigrant story. Traveling abroad at young ages (respectively 16 and 22 years old) to unknown places with no connections, in order to provide for their families. It takes courage to do that.

What are three things everyone should know about immigration?

  1. Comprehensive immigration reform is bipartisan and doable!
  2. USCIS is underfunded and understaffed – applications take time to process.
  3. You should not be in it alone – get a good immigration lawyer.

As Rashmi mentioned, it takes a strong person to move to a new country to live and work. Immigrants are courageous people who add so much value to the fabric of our communities. In trying to navigate the U.S. immigration system, they should not be alone.

Our office helps our clients to maneuver the immigration system, throughout this fluid time and in every type of immigration climate, because having a smart and compassionate immigration law firm working on your case is most important thing to our clients and to all immigrants.

We hope you got to know an important member of our team, Rashmi Shah, a little better.
